The Burnet High School girls soccer team shut out to Austin LBJ 7-0 in District 25-4A play.
The Lady Dawgs (14-5, 8-1) got three goals from Emily Montoya, three from Avery Barth and one from Cheyenne Adams. Yessi Flores and Savannah Griffin each had an assist.
Burnet led 6-0 at the half.
“I thought it was played pretty well,” head coach Doug Ketcham said. “Our (junior varsity) played right before and won 8-0, so it was a good way to start the night. I think that varsity picked up on that and just kind of ran with it and scored.”
The Lady Dawgs scored in the opening 45 seconds thanks to Barth.
“We had to kick off and got it down in our end and we transitioned into attack pretty quick,” Ketcham said. “She was able to beat the defense and put it in. And just everything fell into place for us to get that goal.”
Because of the lopsided score, Ketcham was able to spread the minutes to just about every Lady Dawg.
“Honestly, our defense played OK,” he said. “It wasn’t the greatest. They had a couple of one versus one with Kayleigh Briggs, our goalkeeper, and she came up with some big saves. They will be a little better going forward, though.”
Burnet plays Austin Travis Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Burger Center annex with the junior varsity taking the field at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m., travels to Jarrell Friday, Feb. 27, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m., and the varsity hosts Austin Northeast at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.
